Late Summer at the
Schechter Day School Network | |
Throughout
the summer when schools have been closed for vacation, the Schechter
Day School Network has been humming with activity. Among the projects
that we are leading are:

- "Engage
the World": this stunning new brochure illustrates the core values and
principles of a Schechter education. Member schools are encouraged to
co-brand with the Schechter Day School Network or use the brochure as a
companion piece with their own marketing and recruitment materials. If
you haven't yet received yours, please contact education@uscj.org and request a number of complimentary brochures and information about co-branding and customization.
- The
Schechter Brand Summit: An in-person active workshop that will take
place on August 25th at the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan for
Schechter schools that want to make the most of the new branding
materials to ensure their greatest impact. There is still time to
register by contacting education@uscj.org. There is no charge to attend the event.
- New
website is in the works: As part of the Branding initiative, BBMG has
designed a beautiful new website that aligns with the brochure. There
will be the public facing Internet site as well as an Intranet capacity
for members to avail themselves of the photos, brochure and other
collateral that are all part of this exciting and dynamic project.

18 Voices Sing Kol Nidrei
|
Our colleague, Dr. Elliot Spiegel, Head of School of Schechter Westchester recommends this film:
IN TIME FOR THE HIGH HOLIDAYS
Want to energize a High Holidays discussion or your High Holidays library?
Try "singing" Kol Nidre early. Explore the prayer's rich story with the PBS documentary, "18 Voices Sing Kol Nidre."
The
40-minute film, which aired nationally last fall, is available
for purchase or screening on DVD, with bonus videos of two
cantorial chantings of Kol Nidre and Bruch's Kol Nidrei for
Cello. The film can be ordered on the DVD page of the
website, www.18voices.com. The price for private use is $24.95, for public performance use $74.95.
Wrote Dorothy Rabinowitz, TV critic for The Wall Street Journal and Pulitzer Prize winner:
"A
marvellous film. It is magnificent, eloquent, and
instructive. I was so struck by its effect I watched it four times over
the weekend."
"18 Voices Sing Kol Nidre" asks how a prayer that doesn't mention God became so sacred.
How did its words bring centuries of persecution, then its melody bring redemption?
How did one chant become so important to one people - and to the world?
The answers arrive when 18 voices sing Kol Nidre, when 18 storytellers
share their tales about the prayer, some experts in the chant,
some just changed by chanting it.
If you have any questions, e-mail Allen Oren, producer, at info@18voices.com.
